Alex Kempa - July 23, 2009
Alex Kempa is a fifteen-year-old grade 10 student who attends Assumption College and participates in volleyball, baseball, gymnastics, cross-country, cheerleading, track and golf.
She was involved in the YMCA gymnastics program starting at the age of 3 until 10; she was a member of the Brantford Gymnastics Academy from the age of 10 to 12 and was involved in Level 3 competitions. She played baseball from 2005 to 2007; she participated in house league volleyball from 2004 to 2008 and rep volleyball from 2005 to 2009. She has been involved in track and cross-country since grade 4 and participated in cheerleading at Assumption in 2008 and 2009.
Alex has received a variety of individual and team awards over the years including a 1st place at the 2009 Brant Classic 10km run for girls ages 14 to16, she was captain of the International Children’s Game volleyball team and she won the Ontario Volleyball Association Award of Excellence in 2005/06 and 2008/09, the award is given to an athlete dedicated to the sport of volleyball, shows perseverance and commitment, sportsmanship and fair play, team spirit, leadership.
Alex was also a member of the Assumption College cross-country team that won first place in 2008, she won her school’s Junior Volleyball MVP award in 2009; she won the Squirt Novice girls baseball Most Dedicated Player award in 2007 and she won several awards at various gymnastics competitions.
She participated in the Relay for Life and volunteered at the Brant Youth Volleyball Club and at Northridge junior golf camps.
Alex is a dedicated and hardworking student who achieved a 91% average and her favourite subjects are math and physical education. Her goals for the future include maintaining a 90% average to get on the honor roll and to continue playing volleyball throughout high school and university.
