Alex deVries - December 31, 2009
Alex deVries is an eleven year old grade 6 student who attends Prince Charles Public School and participates in track and field. She has been running competitively for three years training twice a week with her school running club and weekly with the Brantford Track and Field club.
She participates on her school’s volleyball team and also played baseball and was involved in hip hop dance.
Alex is an active member of the Prince Charles track and field team and has won numerous awards at her school meet including 1st in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, high jump and long jump. At the Brant Regional meet she was 1st in the 800m, 1500m and relay. At the Brant County meet she was 1st in the 1500m and 2nd in the 800m races.
Alex also runs for the Brantford Track and Field Club and competes regularly in cross country races. She was 2nd in the 2.5km at the YMCA Jingle Bell run in Cambridge; 5th at the 2009 Brantford Classic Run for the 10-11 year olds; 3rd in the 1500m at the Burlington meet; she won gold in the standing jump and bronze in the 800m and 1500m at the Bramalea Bullets Brampton meet; she finished 1st in the 3km Ingersoll Harvest Run; 2nd at the Brantford Christian School Cross Country meet; 1st in the 5km race at Dundas Valley and 2nd at the 2009 Brant County Cross Country meet. She won the all around Junior Girls Athlete award for track and field.
Alex is a leader in her school’s Active Playgrounds Program assisting with intramural sports. She also helped raise $620 for the Worldwide Christian Schools by competing in a 5K race in Hamilton where she placed 3rd in her age group and 33rd overall in a field of 400 racers.
She is a dedicated and hardworking student who achieves excellent grades and in the future would like to be a veterinarian and run marathons.
