Avery Hamill - February 5, 2009
Avery Hamill is a ten-year-old grade 5 student attending Paris Central School who has been involved in a variety of sports.
She is an active member of her school’s volleyball, baseball, soccer and cross-country teams and has contributed to their success by winning the 2008 Brant County junior girls cross-country championships, the 2008 North Park Invitational cross-country junior girls’ championships and was 1st in the long jump and 1st in the 200m race at her school’s track and field meet.
Avery is currently a member of the Brantford CYO Falcons Division 1 Atom basketball team who were finalists at the Burlington Skyhawks tournament and they finished 4th at the CYO basketball tournament held in January. Last year she was a member of the Brantford Briers Division 3 Novice team that were finalists at the 2008 Ontario Basketball Championships and finalists at the 2008 Blessed Sacrament Tournament held in Hamilton.
Avery was a member of the Brantford Diving Club who competed at the Burlington Y Spring Meet, finishing 2nd in 2006 and 1st in 2007. She completed the Red Cross Swimming program meeting her personal goal of achieving Level 10 by the age of 10. She hopes to follow in her brother’s footsteps by becoming a lifeguard when she is old enough.
She has also been a member of the Paris Soccer Club, the Paris Figure Skating Club, the Brantford Lacrosse Association, the Brantford Gymnastics Academy, the Grand River Gymmies, and started playing tennis and golf last year.
Avery is a member of the Junior Optimist Club, she placed 2nd in the 2008 Remembrance Day Literacy Contest, she is a member of the Leaders In Action peer mentoring program, she is a crossing guard and grade 1 helper, and participated in the Brantford Kiwanis Music Festival finishing in 3rd place for piano in 2007 and 2008.
She is a dedicated and hardworking student who maintains a “B” average and in the future plans on going to university to study music and remain active in sports.
