Christine Macdonald- September 8, 2005
At 17 years old Christine Macdonald is at the top of her game. She is an exceptional basketball player who has worked long and hard to become one of the best junior players in the province, and plans to continue this love of basketball into university and beyond.
After playing in various developmental organizations and regional teams, Christine tried out for and made the provincial under-17 girls basketball team this past summer. She was thrilled to make the team and contributed to their outstanding gold medal finish at the 2005 Canada Summer Games. To add to her already incredible year, Christine was thrilled to be selected one of 50 players who received an invitation to the weeklong Nike All-Canada Basketball Camp, held in Toronto.
Before making the provincial team, Christine had been playing the sport for 10 years, and was on the bantam development program, midget development program and juvenile development program basketball teams. These teams compete as regional teams and serve as extra training throughout the summer.
Always looking to improve her game, Christine enjoyed participating in the Centre for Performance Basketball Program for two years. This developmental program is run at the national level and takes 30-40 athletes from across Ontario, aged 14-18, to work on various skills including on and off-court skills, fitness and nutrition. She's also participated in a Raptor's elite basketball program at the Air Canada Centre.
Christine is also part of the Kitchener-Waterloo Lightning basketball team (rep team), and has enjoyed playing volleyball for six years and soccer for 10. At North Park Collegiate (NPC), she competes on the school's volleyball and soccer teams, and plans to continue playing on these teams in 2005/06.
Christine is a great student, and in addition to her dedication to sports, manages to maintain a place on the honour roll with an 81 per cent average (grades 10 and 11). She is one of two Vice Presidents on the NPC Student Council and has completed her required 40 hours of community service.
With commitments to basketball and student council keeping her extremely busy, Christine rarely has a moment to spare. She enjoys volunteering what little time she does have to help out as a councillor at a Basketball Camp held at North Park Collegiate every summer.
Her future goals include maintaining her above-80 average, getting into the university of her choice and playing basketball at the university level. With Christine's level of dedication to her favourite sport, natural talent and obvious academic ability, these goals are sure to become realities.
Congratulations Christine, and good luck! |
