Ethan Conn -June 25, 2009
Ethan Conn is a nine-year-old grade 3 student from Banbury Heights who has been involved in ball hockey for the past four years and has been playing goal for the last two years. He participated in the Walter Gretzky Street Hockey tournament for the past three years; he played in the Waterloo Roadbreakers Street Hockey tournament for 2 years; and has been a member of the BHI Brantford Lions ball hockey rep team for 1 year.
Ethan has also been involved in basketball at Banbury Heights for 1 year and has been a member of the Brantford City Soccer Club Under 10 league team for the past year.
He helped his team finish 1st in the regular season for BHI Brantford 2008 spring ball hockey season in the 7-9 division; they finished 2nd in the playoffs for the BHI spring ball hockey season; they were 1st for BHI fall ball hockey season finals with the Wolverines aged 7-9 league; they placed 3rd at the 2nd annual Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament in 2008 and finished in 1st place for the 3rd annual Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament aged 7-9 division playing on the BHI Brantford rep ball hockey tournament team the “Brantford Lions.”
Ethan was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes at age 3 and has been actively raising funds since 2004 for the JDRF/Telus “Walk to Cure Diabetes” event that takes place every June in Brantford. Ethan was given the special honour of being the Youth Ambassador for the 2008 JDRF/Telus “Walk to Cure Diabetes” in Brantford. His “TEAM E-FORCE” has raised over $11,000 since starting this yearly fundraising event in 2004.
Ethan will be taking part in the JDRF Ball Hockey Tournament in Welland representing the BHI Brantford Lions in July 2009 to help raise funds for Diabetes Research. He has also taken part in cleanup programs by the school in which the students clean up various areas within their community.
Ethan consistently achieves good marks at school and is always striving to do better. He enjoys science, math and phys-ed. He would like to try baseball next season and possibly get into lacrosse and ice hockey in the future.
