Gino Berardi - December 5, 2002
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Gino Berardi a 16 year-old grade 11 student from St. Johns College who participates in several different sports. Gino has been a player in the Brantford Minor Hockey Association for the past 10 years, is currently assistant captain of the Major Midget AAA team, received an MVP award this season at a tournament and an MVP award at the OHL Bantam Cup earlier this year.
Gino travelled to Quebec for an International PeeWee hockey tournament, was named to an All Star team at a tournament in Sudbury where his team won a silver medal, and was a member of a hockey team that travelled to Los Angles in 1996.
He also enjoys playing spring and summer hockey and has played for various teams over the past 8 years.
Gino has been a member of the St. Johns Eagles football team for the past 2 seasons, and is a member of his high school basketball team. He has also enjoyed playing AAA baseball for the past 8 years.
During the summer of 2000, Gino was selected to the Brantford Minor Baseball All-Star team that travelled to Hamilton, to play in the International Olympic Children?s Games. He was one of the youngest members of the team.
Gino has earned an academic award for the past 2 years and in his goal is to pursue a career in medical sciences when he graduates.
