Jake Cooper - October 13, 2005
Fifteen year-old Jake Cooper is an all-round athlete who's contribution as quarterback on the Junior Bisons Varsity team and the Pauline Johnson Junior Thunderbirds football team, was instrumental in their success this year.
In grade ten he was quarterback for the P.J. Junior Thunderbirds and helped his team to an undefeated regular season and ended up as finalists in the Brant County High School Championships.
Jake was an outstanding quarterback with the Junior Bisons football team, leading his team to a 6-2 regular season. This six foot two, 180-pound offensive player contributed to a win against the Cambridge Lions before advancing to play against the Niagara Spears in the playoff quarterfinal action. In the final game, Jake threw four touchdown passes and completed 17 of 30 attempts for 260 yards. It was no surprise that he was the recipient of the Bisons Offensive Rookie of the Year Award at their recent banquet.
Jake also enjoys playing baseball and has been involved in the sport for about eight years. He played with Onondaga Minor Baseball, the Brantford Minor Baseball Association, was on the Brantford Junior Red Sox AAA Bantam team, and was a member of the Pauline Johnson baseball team last year.
In 2004/2005 he played on the Pauline Johnson Junior basketball team, and competed in javelin with his school's track team in 2003/2004. Jake's coaches and team-mates describe him as an all-round athlete who plays every game with enthusiasm and integrity and his sportsmanlike conduct and constant hard work make him an asset to any team.
He spends his free time volunteering as an assistant coach with the Bisons Atom football team; he helped at the ALS volleyball tournament, and was an umpire with the Onondaga Baseball Association.
An excellent student, Jake maintained an average of 85% and was on the honour in both grades nine and ten. His goals are to work hard and maintain a high average over the next two years so that he can attend the university of his choice, and continue his involvement in football playing on his school's team as well as on the Bisons Varsity team.
Congratulations Jake, and good luck! |
