James Freeman - November 24, 2005
James Freeman is a talented athlete who excels in a variety of sports, and football is at the top of his list. His football career began seven years ago with the Bisons house league where he played the positions of wide receiver, quarterback and safety.
This season he was a wide receiver and kicker for the Bisons Junior Varsity team, and earned an MVP award for his outstanding play. In 1997 James was named the Bisons Defensive Player of the Year and in 1999, 2002 and 2004 he was thrilled to receive the Bisons Award, for his athletic abilities on the field.
James has been a member of the Brant Curling Club (BCC) junior program for five years. He is the skip of both the BCC bantam and junior teams. In 2004 he was skip for the bantam team that scored an 8 ender, and in 2003 helped his team become the Regional A side finalist. He also plays in the Brant Curling Club's men's league and has been a member of the Pauline Johnson curling team for the past two years.
Volleyball is another sport that James enjoys and has been playing for the past five years. In 2004 he was captain of his school's junior boys volleyball team and earned an MVP award for his outstanding play. In 2005 he was captain of the senior boys volleyball team and is currently the assistant coach of the Pauline Johnson junior boys volleyball team.
James is an avid runner and has been involved in track and field since grade four. His events include the 800m, 1500m, triple jump, long jump, 4 x 100 relay and over the years he has received numerous ribbons for his athletic achievements.
James has completed over 90 hours of community work; he is a regular participant at local IMPACT meetings, participated in the Annual Parkinson Walk, volunteered for the Ultimate Canuck Race, and worked at the Bisons Football Camp. He also helped run his church's Vacation Bible school, helped with a mission trip to Quebec, and is involved with his church's youth group as both a participant and guitar player in the youth worship band.
James is a dedicated and hard working student who was on the honor role in grades 9 and 10, and is maintaining an 86 per cent average in grade 11. James received the Citizenship Award in grade 7, and received academic awards in math, science, English, highest mark, and was the Male Athlete of the Year at his grade 8 graduation.
His future plans include going to university to continue his education and remain active in sports.
