Jeff Wreaks - March 4, 2004
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Jeff Wreaks, a 13-year-old Grade 7 student at Lansdowne School.
Jeff started playing soccer for a house league at the age of six. He went on to play select, followed by rep, and then premier. Jeff is now playing on the Brantford Strikers premier team. He also played on the regional team during the 2003 season and is currently practicing with them weekly.
Solely during the 1999 season, Jeff was instrumental in the following victories: Squirt playoff champions; under 10 boys playoff champions; Woodstock under 9 champions; St. Thomas Soccer Club house league under 9 champions; Guelph Select tournament champions; and, league champions for boys under 10, 1st division.
Jeff's string of accomplishments continued in the following seasons; along with his team, they became divisional finalists and captured many tournament victories. Most notably, Jeff brought his team to win the Waterloo Invitational, boys under 12 in 2002.
During the most recent season, 2003, he brought his team to become the Heritage Tournament Cambridge youth soccer champions and finalists at the Waterloo Invitational boys under 13. Jeff also garnered the honour of becoming team captain of the Lansdowne Costain's coed soccer team.
Jeff has also been very successful at track and field at Brant County elementary school meets, collecting ten medals. He was the high jump champion in 2002, gold-medal winner in the 100-, 200- and 400-metre run two consecutive years, 5km cross-country winner two consecutive years, the 2003 Brant County wrestling champion in his weight category and has run the Brantford Classic 5 km run.
Jeff manages to maintain a great grade average at school and is a hard-working student.
