Jillian Wratten - October 10, 2002
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Jillian Wratten a 12 year-old, grade 7 student from Brier Park Public School who is a member of the Brantford Gymnastics Academy and trains with coaches Michael and Iudita Brumaru.
Jillian started taking recreational gymnastics in 1997 and since then has developed into a competitive gymnast. At the age of 9 Jillian won a bronze medal at the Provincial Championships for level 3 vault and finished 8th overall. At age 10 she competed at a National level and was one of only two girls in Ontario, who were 10, to compete that year finishing 13th on Balance Beam in the National Novice Division. At age 11 she finished 4th on Vault and 10th overall at Ontario Tour Selection in the National Novice Level.
Jillian qualified for the Canadian Championships in Winnipeg last May but was unable to attend due to an injury. She also traveled to Romania with six other gymnasts from her club, to train at a National Training Centre. They were the first group of Canadian gymnasts invited to train with elite Romanian athletes.
Jillian will compete this fall in Elites Canada to qualify for the Canadian Championships in the National Novice Level ages 11 to 13. Jillian is an excellent student who is very focussed with a personal goal of the 2008 Olympics.
