Joey Vandervet - November 22, 2007
Joey Vandervet is a sixteen-year-old grade 12 student from Brantford Collegiate Institute who excels in badminton and participates in tennis and cross-country. He has been involved in badminton at a provincial level since 2003, tennis for 3 years, and cross-country for 2 years.
Joey has achieved numerous awards including the 2005 BCSSA junior boys Doubles tennis championship; the 2005 BCSSA junior boys Doubles badminton championships; the CWOSSA junior boys Doubles badminton championships; the 2006 & 2007 BCSSA senior boys Doubles badminton championships; the 2006 & 2007 CWOSSA senior boys Doubles badminton championships; the 2006 & 2007 OFSSA senior boys Doubles badminton championships and received a silver medal at the 2007 Ontario Junior Badminton Championships in mixed doubles.
In 2006 Joey was a quarter finalist in boys Doubles Under 16 at the Junior Badminton Nationals with partner Evan McDonald; and in 2007 he again was a quarter finalist in boys Doubles Under 19 at the Badminton Nationals with partner Evan McDonald.
Joey is a coach at the Brantford Junior Badminton Club and helps umpire at local badminton tournaments. He is a hardworking student who has consistently been on the honor roll in grades 9, 10 and 11.
Joey’s future plans include continuing his education at university and possibly pursuing a career in sports therapy. He also hopes to capture a Junior National badminton title, win the Senior Boys Doubles OFFSA badminton title for the 3 rd year, and represent Canada at International badminton competitions.
Joey would like to thank his coach, Mrs. Edith Hayman who has been highly instrumental in his accomplishments in badminton, and acknowledges his doubles partner, Evan McDonald.
