Jordan Kozina - September 12, 2002
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Jordan Kozina a 16 year-old grade 11 student from St. John's College who excels in both rugby and football. Jordan was selected to play for Rugby Ontario's Junior Men's Under 16 Team and just completed a 10-day tour of England where he played 5 matches against some of the best club and school teams in the country.
Earlier in the season Jordan was named "Man of the Match" in a game played against a team from Edinburgh, Scotland. He was also a member of the St. John's College Junior Rugby team that won bronze at the Barbarian Cup Ontario High School Championships last spring.
Jordan plays for the Jr. OVFL Hamilton IRONMEN Football team and led them to an undefeated season winning the league championship with a record of 11 wins. Jordan scored 18 points in the final game and was named the games MVP and during the season was selected as the "Wilson Player of the Week" for week number 9. He also set a new Jr. OVFL record for points scored with 108 points, and was the second leading rusher in the league.
The IRONMEN selected Jordan as their offensive MVP and was their nominee as the top running back in the league. Last fall Jordan led the St. John's College Jr. Football team to the City finals and set a school record by scoring 18 touchdowns in a single season. This fall Jordan will be volunteering his time as an assistant coach with the Bisons Tyke Football team.
He is an excellent student and has received several awards in Math and Geography. Jordan's long range goal is to attend University, pursue his academic studies and continue to play rugby and football at the next level.
