Josée Matte - November 8, 2007
Josée Matte is a seventeen-year-old grade 12 student who attends Ecole Secondaire Georges P. Vanier school in Hamilton who excels in badminton and participates in several other sports.
She is a member of the Brantford Junior Badminton Club and has been competing for the past six years. She has been an active member of several school teams including volleyball for 5 years, soccer for 3 years, and tennis for 1 year. She was also involved in gymnastics for 5 years.
Josée won her school’s Senior Female Athlete of the Year in 2006/07; she received the 2005/06 and 2006/07 badminton MVP awards; she was the 2006 Western Ontario Badminton Association regionals Triple Crown winner; she was the 5 year consecutive WOBA Singles Champion and was the 2007 Ontario Provincial Mixed Doubles silver medalist with her partner Mike Beres.
She is actively involved at her school volunteering on the yearbook and prom committees, she is the student council president, an assistant badminton coach, and has completed over 130 hours of community service. She is also a nationally certified Level 1 coach working on obtaining her Level 2 certificate.
Josée is an honor role student who achieved an 88% average in 2006/07 and currently maintains an 80+ average. She plans to continue her education by attending University or College and remain involved in badminton at the competitive level.
