Juliana Tu - Febrary 15, 2007
Juliana Tu is a 16-year-old grade 11 student from St. John’s College who excels in Taekwondo and has been involved in the sport for the past 4 years. She was also a member of the St. Johns midget girls volleyball team in grade nine.
Juliana has achieved numerous awards in the sport of Taekwondo including two gold medals for sparring at the 2006 Junior Provincials in game #1 and game #2. She placed 4 th in sparring at the 2006 Junior Nationals, she finished in the Top 16 for patterns at the 2006 World Poomse Championships held in Seoul, Korea and was the Top 10 Female in the synchronized division, with her younger sister Lorraine at the 2006 World Poomse Championships. She won gold in sparring and silver in patterns at the 2006 New York Open and won a bronze medal in sparring at the Montreal Dando Cup.
Juliana received the General Proficiency Award and the Family Studies Award at her grade 8 graduations, she received Academic Awards in grades 9 and 10 and maintains a 90% average.
Juliana enjoys helping coach younger athletes at the TK Olympic Taekwondo Centre; she volunteered at the Brantford General Hospital, she was involved with the Book Buddy program at the Brantford Public Library, and is currently working at the Brant County Health Unit as a Youth Peer Leader. Her group REVEAL, helped educate teens and young children about the health effects of tobacco.
Juliana’s goal is to represent Canada at the 2012 Olympics and attend University and major in English.
