Katelyn Verschoor - February 3, 2005
Katelyn Verschoor has been involved with her favourite sport, gymnastics, for the past six years.
She trains at the Brantford Gymnastics Academy six days a week, four hours per day, and presently competes at the Provincial Tyro Three level. This year at her first qualifier, Katelyn placed first on vault, second on floor, fifth on bars and seventh on beam, ending up third overall in the qualifier competition. She's currently ranked first on vault in her division in Ontario.
Last year, Katelyn performed well at the Provincial Championships in Sarnia, placing first on vault, second on floor and third on beam, in the pre-national division. She is a dedicated athlete and is working towards her ultimate goal of becoming a world-class gymnast and competing at the Olympics when she turns eighteen.
Katelyn also enjoys running cross-country and track and field, and has been competing in these sports for the past few years. Last year, she had one second and two third place finishes, including a third place finish at the Christian Athletic Association of Southern Ontario's (CAASO) competition. In 2004, she won the 1500 and 800 meter events at CAASO held at Lion's Park.
Katelyn is a hard working eleven year old who is home-schooled in grade six and excels at mathematics; she also plays the piano and in her spare time enjoys hanging out with her friends.
