Katie Polischuk - June 18, 2009
Katie Polischuk is a fourteen-year-old grade 9 student from St. John’s College who is actively involved in basketball, soccer and volleyball.
She began playing house league basketball with CYO and Briers at the age of five and played on CYO and Briers rep teams since she was eight. Katie helped her CYO team win a provincial championship when she was eight and this year helped her Briers team win a provincial championship.
Katie recently made the Team Ontario Under 15 Provincial team and will be travelling to British Columbia in August to compete in the National Championships. She also played for the St. Bernard's basketball team and played on the St. John's junior basketball team this year that won the city and CWOSSAA championships. Over the years she has received several MVP and All-star awards at a variety of basketball tournaments.
Katie has been playing house league soccer since she was four; she played BICS soccer for 2 years and was part of the St. John’s varsity team this year. She played house league volleyball for one year and was part of the St John’s midget volleyball team that won the city championships this year. She also competed in cross-country and track and field at elementary school and high school.
In Grade 8, Katie was co-Prime Minister of her school’s parliament, at graduation she was co-winner of the Principals award, she received the Catholic Leadership Award and she was the Female Athlete of the Year.
Katie currently has an 89% average and in the future she plans to continue her education at university taking kinesiology or sports therapy and hopefully play varsity basketball.
