Kayla Santilli - March 17, 2005
Kayla Santilli is a busy 11-year-old who is involved in a variety of sports including soccer, basketball, hockey, and track and field.
She started playing soccer with the Brantford Minor Soccer League when she was four years old, and for the past two years has been playing rep soccer with the Brantford Intercity Soccer League (BICS). Last season Kayla won the Coaches Award at the BICS year-end banquet.
Another sport Kayla enjoys is basketball and been involved with the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) house league for six years, and on a travel team for the past three years. In 2003 Kayla helped her Novice team win a gold medal at the Ontario Basketball Championships.
She has participated in the Gus Maker 3-on-3 basketball tournament for three years, and each year her team won gold. Last summer she attended the Naismith basketball camp in Huntsville, and received the MVP award for the junior girls division. This year Kayla is playing forward for the CYO Falcons Major Atom team, and her team has won gold at their past five out of six tournaments.
At age seven Kayla joined the Brantford Minor Hockey League and three years ago switched to the Brantford Ice Cats Girls hockey league. This season she plays senior girls house league and helped her team finish in first place during the regular season.
She also participates on Intramural sports teams at Resurrection School, and has been a successful member of their cross-country and track and field teams.
Kayla is a well-rounded student and when not participating in sports, this grade six student enjoys spending time with her family and friends, listening to music, reading, and going to the movies. She has developed many great friendships through her participation in sports and appreciates all the coaches and teachers who have contributed to her success.
