Ken Pigeon - January 30, 2001
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Ken Pigeon, an avid racquetball player who competed at the 2000 U.S. Open Racquetball Championships in Memphis Tennessee last November, against the World Champion Earl Acuff, and won in 2 different divisions. He was 4th in the + 75 men's division and 2nd in the + 80 men's division. Ken is a member of the Park Energy Racquetball Club here in Brantford and won the club championship in 1999 for all ages. In 1998 he placed 4th at the U.S. open in the + 75 men's division, and in 1996 & 1994 he placed 4th in the + 65 division at the Canadian Nationals. Ken has focused his interest on racquetball for the last 20 years but before that was
involved with hockey and softball for many years. He was a member of 3 teams that have been inducted into the Brantford and Area Sports Hall of Recognition for winning the Sr. B. Ontario Hockey Championships in 1950-1951, the OHA Intermediate Hockey Championships in 1947-1948, and the Ontario Softball Championships in 1940-1941. Ken continues to participate in local and provincial racquetball tournaments playing against competitors much younger than him and he still enjoys the competition.
