Korey Pettit - January 29, 2004
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is , an 18-year-old grade 12 student at North Park Collegiate.
Korey began playing golf when he was eight years old, and started playing competitively when he was fourteen. He is a member of the Brantford Golf and Country Club, and trains at the Park Racquet and Fitness Club.
Korey's skill earned him the honour to represent Canada in Bermuda in 2001 at the Atlantic International Junior Masters, and once again at the 2003 World Golf Championships in San Diego.
This athlete was also a member of Team Ontario at the 2001 and 2003 Williamson Cup, a tournament between Ontario, Quebec, and twelve U.S. states.
Korey has won six Canadian Golf Association (CJGA) tournaments in the past three years. During the summer of 2003, he finished in 16th place at the Ontario Junior Golf Championships, and 22nd at the Canadian Junior Golf Championships, with scores averaging in the mid-70's.
Korey is due to attend university in the fall to pursue a degree in economics or business administration, and is currently seeking scholarship opportunities to continue playing golf.
He has been playing golf at the high school level, and has been named MVP in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003. Korey was also a CWOSSA individual medalist in 2000, when he shot 70.
Korey's goal is to one day make a living with golf, either by playing golf or by being a part of the business.
