Laura Chapple - February 22, 2007
Laura Chapple is a twelve-year-old grade 7 student at Brier Park Public School who has been involved in a variety of sports starting at an early age. Her favourite sport is basketball but she has participated in baseball, soccer, badminton, track and field and volleyball.
Laura has been involved in both individual and team sports over the past few years, receiving numerous medals for her efforts. She helped her Brier Park baseball and volleyball teams win gold.
Laura is a point guard for the Brantford Briers Major Bantam AA Girls basketball team and really enjoys playing with her team. In 2004 she received the Toronto Raptors Fair Play Award; this award exemplifies leadership, team support, positive attitude and sportsman like qualities.
Last summer Laura and the Brantford Swish 3 on 3 Basketball team participated in several tournaments throughout the province and were very successful. Last September the Brantford Swish participated in the Disney World tournament and was the only team to represent Canada.
In 2006 Laura played the position of Keeper on the Brantford Inter City Soccer under 12 girls travel team and was chosen MVP of the year. The award was very special to her since was chosen by her peers. Laura also tried out for and made the Hamilton District Team and had the opportunity to try out for the Regional team.
Laura is a dedicated and hardworking student who maintains an 89% average, and volunteers in her school’s library and office. She is part of the school safety patrol, she sings in the choir and enjoys helping younger students.
Laura plans to continue her academic and athletic endeavours at high school and one day go to University.
