Laura MacCallum - July 11, 2002
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Laura MacCallum a grade 10 student from Paris District High School who excels in basketball.
Laura has been part of the Briers basketball program since she was 6 years old. She is a team leader, team captain, a top scorer, participated in both
bantam and midget development programs and is a member of the Central West team that placed second in Ontario. Laura is captain of the Paris District high school basketball team, is a strong leader, top scorer and this year received the MVP award.
Laura excels at several different sports including volleyball, track & field, badminton, soccer, cross-county and has won numerous awards over the years.
In 2001 she received 6 awards at the P.D.H.S. awards banquet including the year 1 award, midget track & field award, MVP for basketball, MVP for volleyball and her red letter A. At the 2002 awards banquet she won 6 more awards including the year 2 award, MVP for volleyball, an award for badminton and her gold letter A.
Laura recently received the Bisons Alumni "Gary Snowden Memorial Award" in recognition of a Brant County Intermediate student who exemplifies the traits of courage, commitment and determination in their athletic endeavours.
Laura has been on the honor role for the past 2 years and this year attained a 90% average. In the future Laura plans to attend University, play basketball at a competitive level, and one-day represent Canada on the Women's National Basketball team. Laura's dream is to join the WNBA.
