Lisa Bijman - April 7, 2005
Twelve-year-old Lisa Bijman has been working hard honing her basketball skills since she started playing seven years ago in house league. She is a point guard for the CYO Bantam team that won the Provincial Championships in 2002 and 2004; her team is preparing to defend their title next weekend in London.
Lisa also played on her school's basketball team at Notre Dame, and this year they went undefeated in the AAAA level and captured the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board Championships. Last summer, she had a blast participating in the Gus Macker 3-on-3 tournament held in London, where Lisa and her teammates captured a silver medal, in their first year of competing.
When the basketball season winds down, she starts gearing up for the other main sport in her life, soccer. Lisa plays on the U13 girls team with the Brantford Inter-City Soccer Club and last year her team went undefeated and were promoted to the Premier division in the South Region Soccer League.
Last summer, Lisa and five of her teammates made the district (Hamilton area) team, and later in the fall she attended the Ontario Region 2 ID camp where she was selected for the regional team. This fall Lisa will be competing against girls from other regions to secure a spot on the Provincial team. She also helped her school soccer team win the AAAA County championships last year and is gearing up to help her team defend their title. For the past three years this busy young lady still found time to help out by volunteering as a soccer referee.
Lisa also participates in other school sports including cross-country, track and field, volleyball, and has been involved in flag football at a recreational level, for the last six years. She is a hardworking and dedicated student who maintains an 88 per cent average.
Lisa would like to acknowledge the contributions of two special coaches Hugo Degrandis and Dino Andreadis, who have greatly influenced her development as a player but more importantly as a person.
Congratulations Lisa, and good luck! |
