Mandie McGivern - July 28, 2005
Mandie McGivern joined the Brantford Youth Dart League (BYDL) in 2004 and started honing her skills never thinking that she would become a champion in such a short time. By the early spring of 2005, Mandie finished first overall at the Provincial Championships held in St. Catherines (senior female category), and finished second overall at the Canadian Nationals held in Thunder Bay, this past May.
With her sights set on a first place finish at nationals next year, Mandie is training two to three times a week and plays every Sunday with the BYDL. She competed at the Kitchener-Waterloo Open and the Oshawa Open where she placed in the top eight in doubles 501, doubles cricket, and mixed doubles.
Mandie looks forward to the time she spends in Brantford and recently was honoured to be chosen the Best of Britain Village Ambassador for the 31st annual International Villages Festival. She enjoyed the experience of meeting and greeting everyone who attended the Best of Britain Village.
Mandie keeps herself busy by volunteering with the BYDL; she helped out at the tyke provincials and coached the BYDL tyke team. Mandie also loves wrestling, and while attending Laura Secord Secondary School in St. Catherines, she placed first at a school meet.
Mandie is a recent graduate of North Park Collegiate, and her plans for the future include becoming a family lawyer and training for the 2006 Nationals next May, where she hopes to win gold.
Congratulations Mandie, and good luck! |
