Meghan Blunt - September 29, 2005
Sixteen-year-old Meghan Blunt was thrilled to receive the 2005 Junior Female Athlete of the Year award at Brantford Collegiate Institute (BCI) in June.
She has been involved with the Brantford Girls Hockey Association (BGHA) for the past ten years, playing on both house league and select teams. During the 2004/05 season her Midget A team won the Sarnia Silverstick Championship and the Brantford Ice Cats Hockey Tournament.
Meghan enjoys playing soccer during the summer and has been involved with the Brantford Youth Soccer League for the past eleven years, on both their select and house league teams. This summer, her select team won the Ancaster Heritage Tournament and the Stratford Tournament, as well as countless regular season games.
Meghan has also been involved in a variety of sports at BCI, competing in cross-country, hockey, badminton, soccer and tennis. In 2002, she was awarded the Female Athlete of the Year at Ryerson public school.
In her spare time Meghan volunteers at the local arena, teaching young girls power skating and working with them to encourage their enjoyment of the sport. She has been a Brant County Recreational Soccer league referee for three years, and has been a volunteer at the Brantford General Hospital for the past year. She also loves to play the guitar and keyboard.
Meghan is part of the Key Club at BCI and this past summer, represented her school at the Ontario Educational Leadership Centre. She is currently in grade 11 and is a dedicated and hardworking student who has maintained an average of over 90% for the past two semesters.
In the future, Meghan is looking forward to playing sports at a varsity level and hopes to pursue a career in the medical field, possibly as a pediatrician.
