Meghan Telfer - August 18, 2005
Twelve-year-old Meghan Telfer enjoys playing several different sports, but her favourite is basketball. She's been involved with the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) for eight years, and has been part of the CYO Falcons all-star team for the past five years. In 2002 Meghan helped her CYO Falcons team win the Division I Championships, at the Ontario Basketball Association's annual tournament.
For the past few years, Meghan has had the opportunity of attending the Olympia summer basketball camp held in Huntsville, and has a great time meeting new friends and playing a sport she loves. Meghan helped her Olympia basketball team win the Bantam Spring Classics Championship this year, and was thrilled to receive the 2005 Coach's Award for her contributions at summer camp. This talented young lady is no stranger to winning awards, she received the 2004 Defensive Award at the Olympia basketball camp.
Meghan is a student at Christ the King School and plays on several school teams including basketball, volleyball, golf and soccer. In 2003 she helped her school's basketball team win a gold medal, and is looking forward to playing again this fall. Meghan participated in golf for the past four years, and has enjoyed playing on her school's volleyball team for the past two years.
Meghan is a big soccer fan and has been involved with the Brantford Youth Soccer League for nine years, and is looking forward to continuing to play the game in the future.
Meghan is going into grade eight this September and is looking forward to continuing her involvement in school sports. She is a dedicated and hardworking student who has an overall average of 87 per cent, and her best subject is mathematics. When Meghan enters high school next year her goal is to maintain a high academic average and try out for both the basketball and volleyball teams.
Meghan's future plans are to graduate from high school and continue her education at university or college with a focus in mathematics.
