Melissa Howell - January 15, 2009
Melissa Howell is a seventeen-year-old grade 12 student from North Park Collegiate who participates in basketball, baseball, volleyball, tennis and skiing.
She has been actively involved with Brantford Briers basketball from 1996 to 2006 and played rep basketball from 2001 to 2008. She played for the St. George Dragons and the Sheffield Express baseball teams from 2000 to present, and has played recreational tennis since 2002 and recreational skiing since 2001. In 2006 she was a member of the Brantford volleyball team that participated at the International Children's Games in Bangkok, Thailand.
Melissa has received several awards over the years including the BCCSA Tennis Mixed Doubles finishing 1st in 2005, 2006 and 2008 winning the team MVP in 2005. Her high school volleyball team finished in 1st place at BCCSA in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. She helped her school’s baseball team win the BCCSA Championships in 2008 and contributed to the success of her Flamborough Minor Softball team finishing 2nd in 2007, and winning the Championships in 2008.
Melissa is an active member of the Trojan Athletic Committee, the Anti-Bullying Committee, and the Student's Voice Group. She volunteers at the St. George Apple Harvest Festival and is the 2008 Paris Fair Ambassador. She is also the Youth Delegate for Thrive, the Canadian Centre for Positive Youth Development.
Melissa is a dedicated and hardworking student who currently has a 91% average and plans to continue her education by attending university and playing varsity sports.
