Athlete of the Week - 2002


    Michael Van Every - August 22, 2002


    The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Michael Van Every a 14 year-old graduate of Joseph Brant Public School who recently won 4 gold medals and one silver medal at the North American Indigenous Games in Winnipeg. Michael was a member of Team Ontario who won gold in the bantam 100m, 200m, long jump and shotput as well as a silver medal in the juvenile 4x100m relay. His five medals tied him for the most medals won among all the Ontario athletes.

    Michael helped his team win both the 2002 Six Nations PeeWee Boys Softball League Championships and the Ontario Regional Six Nations PeeWee Boys Softball Championships. He also helped his team win the 2000 Ontario Regional Six Nations Squirt Softball Championships.

    He won a bronze medal in the long jump at the 2002 Brant County Elementary Track & Field meet along with a gold medal for the long jump and silver in shotput during the 2001 Brant County Elementary Track & Field meet.

    Michael volunteered for the Christmas Baskets in 2001 is looking forward to entering grade 9 at Assumption College in September, and is interested in remaining involved with track & field at school.
