Michael Wale - June 20, 2002
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Michael Wale a 16 year-old grade 10 student from BCI who excels at several sports. Michael won silver in the 17 & under 400 metre hurdles and was selected to participate in the Ontario Legion Championship this July. He was a Brant County junior boys Track & Field Champion, and qualified for the OFSSA Regional in the junior boys 400 metre and 300 metre hurdles.
Michael was named MVP of the BCI junior boys basketball team and helped them win silver in the AAA division at CWOSSA. He was a starting wide receiver on his school's junior football team that won the City Championships and is a member of the Hamilton Olympic Track & Field Club.
Last year Michael was chosen grade 9 Athlete of the Year at BCI, won a silver medal at OFSAA in the midget boys 300 metre hurdles and 4th at OFSSA in the 400 metres. He was a member of the junior boys basketball team that went to CWOSSA and was selected for the Basketball Ontario Bantam Development Program and played at the 2001 Ontario Summer Games.
He won the 1999 Churchill Trophy for Outstanding Athlete under 15 and in 1998 won the Kevin Sullivan Trophy for Outstanding First Year Athlete both from the Brantford Track & Field Club.
Michael still finds time to volunteer as a coach in the Briers basketball program, was a referee for the elementary school basketball championships and has been a referee for flag football for the past several years.
