Mikayela Piet - December 24, 2008
Mikayela Piet is a six-year-old grade 1 student from Prince Charles Public School who has been an active member of the D & D United Martial Arts since 2007.
At the Crispin Super Shiai in Georgetown for five and under all belts she was 4th in Forms and 5th in Sparring. She was 2nd in sparring, 3rd in kata, and 3rd in weapons at the Crispin Shiai in Acton for six year old and under belts. She was 1st in weapons, 2nd in forms, and 2nd in sparring at the Crispin Shiai in Acton for five year old all belts. At the Canadian Diamond Challenge for five year old and Under she was 5th in forms.
Mikayela placed 3rd in forms and 4th in sparring at the Kung Fu Mania for five year old and under. At the Bonsai Open in Georgetown for novice under six year old she was 5th in weapons, 5th in sparring and 5th in kata. She was 1st in weapons, 5th in weapons and 7th in sparring at the Quest of Champions in Toronto in the novice under six year old. At the Generations Martial Arts
Championships in Waterloo for the six and under all belts she was 2nd in kata, 3rd in sparring and 5th in weapons. She was 3rd in kata and 3rd in sparring at the Power National Championships for the under six year old.
Mikayela was the Triple Crown winner for the Crispin Tournament circuit for top points in kata, weapons and sparring in the five and under all belts division. She received the D & D United Martial Arts Karate Kid and the Student of the Year for demonstrating excellent focus at the club and tournaments.
She will be the youngest member representing Team Canada at the International Congress of Martial Arts World Championships in Varadero Cuba in January 2009.
Mikayela is a B student and her teacher says that she is a kind and thoughtful member of her class and volunteers to take on extra responsibilities in the classroom, especially helping others. She donated all of her allowance for the month of October to UNICEF and regularly donates her toys to groups in the community.
In the future she wants to be a black belt, teach other kids karate and when she grows up become a fireman or police officer.
