Mike Burke - April 1, 2010
Mike Burke is a fifteen-year old grade 9 student from St. John’s College who has been involved in several sports over the years including track and field, basketball, and baseball.
In 2008 Mike was named to the Inter-county Baseball Association’s All-Star team that finished 2nd in the Ontario Peewee All-Star tournament held in Newmarket. He was MVP in the championship game during the 2009 Brantford AAA Minor Bantam baseball tournament and helped his team win a silver medal at the 2009 Baseball Ontario Minor Bantam A provincials competing against thirty teams from across the province.
In 2008/09 Mike was the St. Pius School track & field Pent Athlete of the Year and was instrumental in helping his team win a gold medal at the 2008 Inter-County Baseball Association’s Major Peewee League Playoffs.
He was a member of the St. Pius School track & field and basketball teams for 4 years; he played CYO basketball for one year and was involved with Brantford Minor Baseball for ten years including seven years on a rep team.
Mike was involved in the DARE program in 2008, he is the assistant coach for his younger brother’s minor baseball rookie house league team who won the league championships, and also volunteers with Brantford Minor Baseball during tournaments, registrations, and clinics.
Mike is a hard working and dedicated student who maintains an 80 to 85% average and won two leadership awards at St. John’s College in 2010. In the future he wants to become an elementary school teacher and continue to play baseball with hopes of someday playing professional.
