Mike Emmett - April 21, 2005
Mike Emmett is a fifth year student at Assumption College (ACS) who has excelled virtually at every sport he has participated in over the years. He played CYO basketball for 13 years, including eight on rep teams; he was an OBA gold medallist in 1997 (atom division), and an OBA silver medallist in 2004 (juvenile division).
Mike helped his high school teams repeat their success on the courts as five-time BCSSA Champions; three-time back-to-back CWOSSA Champions; and helped them win a bronze medal at OFSSA this past season. He was selected to the all-star team at the Court Heinbuch Classic and ACS/SJC Christmas Shootout; selected for the Brant County all-star team in the Hamilton Spectator Classic; and to the Ford Raptors High School Recognition Academic all-star team this year.
Mike also played Inter-County baseball for five years and was named MVP in his rookie year; he played Bisons Football for three years and was named Rookie of the Year in 1997 and Best Offensive Player in 1996. He played Harlequins Rugby for three years and was selected captain of the under 19-rugby team that travelled to Wales over the March break.
In grades nine and ten Mike ran cross-country and in grade 11 he gave volleyball a try and ended up winning the MVP award. For the past five years Mike has participated on his school's track and field, basketball and rugby teams, and in grades 10 and 12 he was a member of their football team.
Mike is a dedicated and hardworking student who has maintained an over 90 per cent average throughout high school. He volunteered at CYO basketball; has been involved with the ACS elimination draw for five years; and is currently working on his runway strut as he prepares for the Children's Wish Foundation Charity Fashion Show.
Mike is planning to continue his education at university this fall but hasn't quite decided whether to study chemistry or chemical engineering; he is also interested in playing basketball at the university level.
Mike would like to thank all the great coaches that have helped him develop as an athlete over the years, with a special mention to Tim Dawson, who was the first coach who really believed in him and helped him develop the confidence that he exhibits today.
Congratulations Mike, and good luck! |
