Nicole Sippel - October 7, 2004
This week the TCO salutes Nicole Sippel as the Athlete of the Week.
Nicole is a tenth grade student at Paris District High School whose main sport of interest is volleyball. This past summer she was a member of the Canadian contingency that participated in the International Children's Games volleyball tournament, competing against other youths from around the globe. During the school year Nicole demonstrates her prowess on the court as a member of her high school's volleyball team, the Paris Panthers.
In addition to volleyball, Nicole is also a member of PDHS's basketball team, and previously played in the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) basketball league. She played baseball for five years, rugby for one year, track and field for ten years, and recently began taking part in cross-country running.
Nicole's performances in her various athletic pursuits have earned her several accolades. In 2004—her freshman year-- she received of the Coach's Award for basketball, the Heart Award for track & field, and the Track Warrior Award.
In addition to her sporting pursuits, Nicole managed to attain a 90% average in her Grade Nine courses. She also volunteers her time tutoring younger students, assisting them with their schoolwork. Nicole's goals for this year include maintaining her A average in school, participating in sports, and becoming active on school committees.
