Rebecca Terejko - May 20, 2004
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Rebecca Terejko, an 11-year-old Grade 5 student at St. Bernard School.
Rebecca began swimming at the age of 5 and currently competes for the Brantford Aquatic Club. Recently she was ranked third in Canada in the 50-metre breaststroke for the 10 and under age group. She was also nationally ranked fifth in the 100-metre and 10th in the 200-metre breaststroke.
During the provincial championships in Etobicoke, Rebecca broke two Brantford Aquatic Club team records that had been standing for over 26 years. She beat both the 50-metre and 100-metre breaststroke records by over 2 seconds.
During the 2002-2003 season, Rebecca accumulated well over 400 seconds in time off. In past seasons, she has been a gold medal recipient of many "time-off" awards.
In June, Rebecca will be attending the Long Course Provincial Championships in Nepean, Ontario in the 11 and 12-year-old age group and hopes to improve upon past performances.
In addition to being an excellent student, Rebecca also happily participates in CYO basketball, the school drama club, and track and field. Her goal is to represent Canada in the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Congratulations Rebecca and good luck. |
