Rory McDonell - August 9, 2007
Rory McDonell is a recent graduate of St. Johns College who excels in both football and rugby and participated in several other sports over the years.
Rory is a member of the Brantford Bisons Varsity Football Club as a running back, place kicker and back up quarterback. In July he captured the provincial league record for kicking the most field goals (13) during the regular season.
He was quarterback and captain of the St. Johns senior football team this past year; he was captain of the SJC senior boys rugby team and was a member of the Brantford Harlequins junior rugby program in 2005 and 2006, playing centre and kicker.
In the spring of 2006 Rory travelled to England for 8 days with the SJC rugby team competing in several matches and was named the “man of the match” in several games during the tour. He was invited to attend a sports academy in the UK but decided to return to St. Johns for his final year of high school.
Rory played varsity hockey and helped his team capture the BCSSA championships, finishing 3 rd at CWOSSA. He played rep soccer from 1999 to 2005; rep hockey from 1998 to 2006 and rep lacrosse, rep roller hockey and AAA baseball.
Rory has received numerous athletic awards over the years including the St. Johns College 2007 Senior Male Athlete of the Year, the 2006 and 2007 SJC Rugby MVP, and the 2005 and 2007 SJC Football MVP awards.
He helped coach the St. Johns junior rugby team this past spring, volunteered at hockey camps from 2002 to 2004, and helped with BICS soccer.
Rory was on the honor role 3 of the 4 years that he attended high school and graduated as an Ontario Scholar.
Rory will be attending Brock University this fall where he plans to earn a degree in Business Administration, play varsity men’s rugby and rugby at the North American 4 level.
