Ryan MacGregor - September 2, 2004
This week the Tournament Capital of Ontario salutes Ryan MacGregor as our Athlete of the Week.
A Grade Seven student at Greenbrier School, Ryan makes his mark as an outstanding lacrosse player. This 12 year old has been playing for seven years, spending the past four seasons as a member of the Brantford Posse Rep squad.
In 2004 Ryan boasted a record of 135 goals and 49 assists in a 39 game season. This year he also had the honour being one of only 32 players from across the province invited to the final selection camp for the 2004 Team Ontario Peewee Lacrosse Club, which participated in the Canadian Championships.
In addition to lacrosse, Ryan has also played hockey for six years. For the past four years he was a member of the Brantford 99ers AAA team. His positive attitude earned him attention, winning him the Lance Miller Memorial Trophy for most sportsmanlike player in the Peewee AAA division at the 2003/2004 Wayne Gretzky International Hockey Tournament. In 2002/2003 he was named his team's most valuable defenceman, and was selected to play in the Ottawa Bell Challenge All Star game. His All Star appearances also include the Toronto Jr. Canadiens International Tournament (2001/2002), and the Preston International Tournament (2000-2001).
Ryan's athletic pursuits have also included participation on several of his school's teams, including baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and track & field. He was also a member of a rep fastpitch team that finished third in the provincial B championships in 2002.
In his spare time Ryan is a crossing guard at his school, as well as a volunteer tuck shop attendant. He maintains an A average, and in 2001 won the Greenbrier School Wayne Gretzky Award for his demonstrated ability to achieve success in both academics and athletics.
In the future Ryan aspires to become a professional lacrosse player, or would like to study law.
Congratulations Ryan, and good luck! |
