Sarah Peters - October 30, 2008
Sarah Peters is a sixteen-year-old grade 11 student from Brantford Collegiate Institute who has been actively involved in the sport of soccer for twelve years. She plays midfield for the Brantford Intercity Bobcats U-16 girl’s team in the elite division of the South Region Soccer League. She received the Brantford Intercity Soccer Sportsmanship Award for her team when she was only 11 years old. She has also played hockey for six years with the Brantford Ice Cats.
Sarah is proud to be a Mustang and contributes to the Brantford Collegiate Institute varsity girls’ soccer and hockey teams as well as cross country and track and field teams. She was part of the BCI girls’ hockey team that won the BCSSA Championships, last year.
In grade 9 Sarah won first place in the Brant County midget girls cross country race, and in grade 10 she raced to a second place finish. She has been involved in the Brantford Classic Run 5 km race for the past three years, coming in second place for her age division for the past two years.
Sarah was the BCI Junior Girls’ Track and Field Champion and MVP in Grade 10, as well as the 3-D Award winner for cross-country. She has achieved several track and field accomplishments, last year she won the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m races and came in second in the 1500m race at the BCI meet. She also participated on the relay team and they won first place at the BCSSA meet. For the past two years, she has won individual running events at BCSSA and competed at CWOSSA. Last year, she qualified for CWOSSA in all four of her high school sports.
Her community involvement includes reading with elementary students through the Canadian Parents for French “Rendezvous for Learning” program at the library, helping out with soccer tournaments, and face painting at community events. She has worked as a soccer referee, and a camp counsellor.
Sarah is an honour roll French Immersion student who won the visual arts award in grades 8 and grade 9 and the drawing and sculpture award in grade 10. She hopes to combine her athletic and artistic talents in her future career goals.
