Sasha Smith - April 4, 2002
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Sasha Smith a 14 year-old grade 9 student from St. John's College who trains with the South Dumfries Figure Skating Club. Sasha has been coached by Penny Colwell since she was 8 years old, and since then Sasha has received her Novice Competitive Figure Skating test, her Gold Freeskate test and her Gold CFSA Skills level.
This season Sasha won the Ladies Gold Singles event at the Delhi Disco Figure Skating Competition as well as the Hallwent Figure Skating Competition. She also won a Silver medal at the All-Ontario Regional Finals in Hespeler and placed 8th at the All-Ontario Championships in Sudbury. Sasha is also a member of the synchronized skating team Ice Image that recently won the Canadian National Championships in Kitchener. Sasha is a volunteer instructor of younger children at the South Dumfries Skating Club, helps with the Poppy campaign and other activities at the St. George Legion and still finds time to maintain an 87% average at school.
