Scott Dickens - February 13, 2001
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Scott Dickens a grade 11 student at Ancaster High School who is a member of the Brantford Aquatic Club and trains 9 times per week with head coach Mark Fellner. Scott is 16 and won six gold medals and one bronze at the 25th annual Swim International meet last November here in Brantford. He won the 100 metre freestyle, breaststroke and the individual medley races. He also won the 400 freestyle and IM and the 100 metre breaststroke and was third in the 50 freestyle and eighth in the 100 butterfly. Scott was part of the International Children's Games twice in grade 7 and 8 and in Spain and his relay team won a silver metal. In the past year he participated in the Youth National Championships and placed 2nd in two events. He qualified for the Olympic trials at age 15 where he competed against older swimmers. Scott also plays water polo for his school team. His goal is to place in the top 8 at Nationals and compete in the Canada Games this August. Scott's best events are the 100 and 200 breaststroke and freestyle.
