Stephanie Fernandez - November 28, 2002
The Tournament Capital of Ontario "Athlete of the Week" is Stephanie Fernandez a 14 year-old grade 9 student from St. John's College who competes in several different sports. Stephanie is a graduate of St. Leo's Elementary School where she played basketball, co-ed soccer, girl's volleyball, co-ed volleyball and won the free throw competition for two years.
Stephanie participated in the Brantford Classic Run for three years and was the top pledge winner at her school. She was the Student Council President at St. Leo's school, she won the speech competition for two years, and at her grade 8 graduation ceremonies received four awards. She won the Award of Merit, the French award, the School Spirit award and the Sportsmanship and Athletics award.
She attended a North Park basketball camp in 2000 and won the female camper of the week award. Stephanie played on the St. John's College midget basketball team that won this year's championships and were undefeated. She is trying out for the SJC midget volleyball team and next March will try out for the school soccer team.
She coaches 9 and 10-year old girls in CYO basketball and referees youth up to 13 years old. Stephanie's goal for the future is to pursue a career working with computers and currently has a 90% average.
