Wendy Blunt - October 11, 2007
Wendy Blunt is a 16-year-old grade 12 student who attends Brantford Collegiate Institute and participates in several sports including hockey, soccer, badminton, track & field and cross county.
Wendy has been an active member of the Brantford Girls Hockey Association (BGHA) since 1995 and is currently on the Midget A Ice Cats team. She has also been a member of various soccer teams in Brantford over the past 12 years and has refereed soccer for younger divisions.
Sport teams at BCI have benefited from Wendy’s athletic skills and sportsmanship for the past 3 years. She has been a member of her school’s soccer, baseball, hockey, cross-country, track & field, ultimate frisbee and badminton teams.
Wendy’s other school activities include being a member of the Athletic Council, French Club, Activism Committee, Relay for Life Captain and 30 Hour Famine participant.
She has been an on-ice power skating instructor for the BGHA as well as a certified trainer for house league for the past 4 years. She has assisted BGHA with administration duties including data entry and taking registrations, and continues to volunteer at the annual Brantford Ice Cats tournament and at the Ontario Provincials held in Mississauga each spring. This hockey season, Wendy will be a trainer for the Novice C Ice Cats team, working with 5-8 year old female hockey players.
Over the years, Wendy has been a volunteer involved in many community events including Families Only New Years, Brantford’s Good Year Drive For Gold Champions On Ice, Santa Claus Parade, Parks & Recreation Children’s’ programs/camps, Brantford’s Hockeyille Committee, and the Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament.
Wendy has also been a volunteer at the Brantford General Hospital and is a participant each year in the Rotary Club’s Brantford Classic.
Wendy maintains an 86% average and plans to continue her education next year by attending the University of Guelph and studying to become a dietician.
