Athlete of the Week - 2009


    Wes St. Amand - April 9, 2009

    Wes St. Amand is a fourteen-year-old grade 8 student from Greenbrier Public School who is actively involved in several sports. He participates on the baseball, soccer, volleyball, basketball, badminton, track and field, ball hockey, wrestling and golf teams at his school.

    Wes plays for the Brantford 99ers AAA hockey team and was a member of the interclub golf team at the Brantford Golf and Country Club. He has been playing hockey since he was seven and golf since he was six years old.

    Wes has achieved several individual and team awards for hockey, golf and wresting including the Brant County Wresting Championship for the 53 kilo weight category; he finished in 2nd place at the Grand Erie District School Board tournament and had top three finishes at other tournaments. He earned MVP awards in hockey from 2004 to 2008; his team won the 2007 Lambton Golden Blade Championship and the 2007 & 2008 Wayne Gretzky International Hockey Tournaments.

    He volunteers by helping shovel snow for his elderly neighbors. Wes is a dedicated and hardworking student who maintains excellent marks at school.

    In the future he hopes to make the honor roll every year at high school and stay active in sports by participating on a variety of school teams. Wes hopes to earn a university scholarship in golf or hockey and one day be drafted into the OHL from the Alliance Hockey League.
