Zane Neily - September 6, 2001
This week's TCO "Athlete of the Week" is Zane Neily a grade 7 student at Notre Dame School who plays for the Brantford Minor Hockey 99ers AAA team.
During the 1999 season Zane was asked to play for Pro Hockey and traveled to Edmonton to participate in the International Brick Tournament which his team won. He plays summer hockey for the Mid-Elgin Red Wings and during the Ronald McDonald tournament this year he scored the tying goal of the game as well as the winning goal in overtime and was named MVP of the tournament. Zane had the privilege of travelling to Belarus to play hockey with the Canada 89's this summer, the experience of a lifetime for a 12 year-old, winning gold and finishing third overall in points scored. Zane enjoys golf and is a member of the Arrowdale golf club where he won 2 club tournaments. He also plays lacrosse, soccer and roller hockey and in his spare time enjoys swimming and fishing.
